LAA Opportunities
Would you like to know and show how your organisation is delivering Derbyshire’s top priorities?
The Derbyshire Partnership Forum (DPF) is made up of all the public sector agencies involved in delivering public services in Derbyshire like the PCT, Police, Fire & Rescue Service, JobCentre, Arts Council and Sports England to name just a few. They work together with the voluntary and community sector (VCS) to decide on their shared priorities for Derbyshire and agree them with Central Government. This is called the Local Area Agreement and the DPF must deliver on it. Most VCS organisations support delivery of the LAA too, if only everybody understood how!
The Voice for the Voluntary Sector Project Officer would like to come and talk to you about the work your group or organisation does. She will help you to understand how your organisation is supporting the work of this partnership – very useful information for funding applications, no matter how big or small.
She will then use this information to develop a number of different case studies showing how much the VCS contributes to the LAA. This will be made into a pamphlet and used to showcase your work at the LAA thematic partnership meetings, training for newly elected members etc. etc.
If you would like to meet with Claire to discuss this further, get in touch! Her contact details are below this email. She is happy to travel to you, wherever you are in the county, so give her a call.
LAA Training for Staff and Trustees
Did you know that the Voice Project Officer can deliver training especially for your group, to your staff and trustees? Some of you will already have attended LAA training which Claire has been delivering in community venues all around the county and she would be delighted to work with you to tailor that to your organisation. Understanding more about how your group contributes to delivering the LAA can help your business planning and support any grant applications so it is information worth knowing.

Important Changes for Management Committees of Community Buildings
ACRE and the Rural Community Action Network, which includes Derbyshire Rural Community Council, welcomes new changes to the Licensing Act 2003 which came into effect on 29 July 2009.
The Legislative Reform (Supervision of Alcohol Sales in Church and Village Halls) Order 2009 will allow volunteer committees managing community buildings to take joint responsibility for the sale of alcohol in their buildings instead of being required to appoint an individual as the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). Small communities, whether rural or urban, have found it very difficult to recruit and fund a volunteer DPS who was willing to take on the responsibility and the required training.
Management committees will need to ensure that the sale of alcohol is included in their Premises Licence and be able to demonstrate clearly to their local licensing authority how they operate and that there will be appropriate supervision of alcohol sales at different types of events.
"Village halls and other community buildings provide an extremely important resource for communities, accommodating a wide range of educational, welfare and sports and leisure activities," says ACRE's Village Hall Information Officer, Deborah Clarke. "These much needed changes have taken years of lobbying by the Rural Community Action Network. We are therefore very pleased that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport have listened to our concerns and taken action to de-regulate particularly in the current climate when committees are struggling to cope with reductions in funding, and legislative requirements."
For further information please contact the DRCC's Village Halls Advisor, Helena Stubbs, on 01629 821925 or email Helena at h.stubbs@derbysrcc.org.uk |
