Managing Difficult Volunteer Situations

FREE training for those who work with or manage volunteers.

Aimed at Volunteer Coordinators and Managers this training session will look at what is a difficult volunteer situation, with real life examples. The impact difficult situations may have on your group / organisation, and potential solutions including exit strategies.

Training is funded so free to attend and includes lunch and an opportunity to network.

Applying for Large Grants

Date: Wednesday 24 March
Time: 1.00 pm to 4.15 pm
Venue: The Parish Centre, Stonegravels, Chesterfield

This workshop will help those developing their skills in applying for funding, and in particular those looking for larger amounts of funding (over £10,000).  Attendees will receive an overview of sources of small grants and funding, learn about what large grants funders are looking for, and provide the opportunity to plan and develop a large grant project.

Cost: £75 – Private and Statutory Sector Organisation; £40 – Third Sector (including Charities, Voluntary & Community Sector, and Social Enterprises)

Community Climate Change Conference

Sat 13 March 9.15am-4pm to be held
in the Members' Room at County Hall in Matlock.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided

The event is open to everyone, but will be of greatest benefit to individuals who are considering starting up, or have very recently started, Low Carbon Community/sustainable energy/sustainability/Transition Town groups

  • keynote speaker Hugh Ellis, Chief Planner of the Town and Country Planning Association and a Derbyshire resident.
  • networking opportunity for you and other Derbyshire people interested in tackling climate change.
  • opportunity to attend a number of workshops during the day. These will be run by established community groups and a range of organisations, and will provide you with information and help on climate change and related issues.

Examples of planned ‘how to’ workshops include:

  • Setting up a community-owned renewable energy scheme
  • Carrying out energy audits of community buildings
  • Going plastic bag-free.

The conference has been timed to allow arrival by train and the Transpeak Bus, run by Trent Barton. Other buses also arrive in Matlock to allow plenty of time to reach County Hall.

Following on from the event, ‘Voice for the VCS’ hopes to establish a VCS Climate Change Network. This network will receive information from the County Council’s LAA Climate Change subgroup and inform decisions made by them. If you would like to understand more and influence the counties strategies to combat Climate Change please come along to the conference and speak with Claire Thornber, Voice for the VCS Project Officer.
