Jewson Building Supplies has launched a vote-based competition aimed at transforming spaces and places in need of a little love and attention.
Details...
The awards are meant to be used to support building projects of all shapes and sizes, no matter how innovative or ambitious.
The competition is open to any local group in the UK that has a ‘big idea’ that will benefit its community. Nominations for innovative and ambitious projects which make use of sustainable products and practices are particularly welcome.
Regional winners will get support of £1,000 and £5,000. One project will win the main £50,000 prize.
The awards are to be used to help pay for the cost of building materials and labour and can be spent on anything from a new roof or a coat of paint for a neglected public facility.
The deadline for entries is 12 April 2015. Jewson will produce a shortlist of nominated projects, then communities will be asked to vote on which to support. After that, a panel will pick the winners.

The consortium is a new form of voluntary sector collaboration for the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Area – which covers Derbyshire and Derby City, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham.
Details...
The Social Inclusion Consortium (working title) is voluntary sector led, plans to increase in membership and will be bidding for the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership and Big Lottery’s Building Better Opportunities Programme.
The consortium grew from last year’s autumn meeting of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire voluntary sector infrastructure organisations. Now a working group has turned the ideas for a consortium into a reality.
Sylvia Green of Rural Action Derbyshire said "We are focussed on the 5 priority groups that experience the greatest challenges and are working to sustain the vital role that voluntary organisations play in improving the life chances of excluded groups”.
This launch is the starting point from which to build the membership of the Social Inclusion Consortium. It is an inclusive network and if you are interested in getting involved then please contact Sylvia Green on 01629 592971 or s.green@ruralactionderbyshire.org.uk
