'How to make the most of community shares' is a half day event organised by The Community Shares Unit and Ethex on Tuesday 15 November 2016.
Details...
This is a great opportunity to focus on community shares and how this type of positive investment is being used by community groups and community businesses to create what they want to see in their communities. There has been significant growth and interest in community shares and over the past few years over 400 community businesses have raised over £100 million from community share offers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to network and learn about the latest trends and market data.
Jamie Hartzell, chair and founder of the positive investment and savings platform, Ethex, will talk about the findings of their landmark survey on "Understanding the positive investor”. This could help people thinking about community shares to be able to better reach out to people who want to support great work in their communities and encourage them to invest in projects and community businesses.

The Friends of Conduit Street Playing Fields have been nominated for an award in the Tesco Bags of Help grant scheme.
Details...
Customers will vote in store to decide which project gets the top award. This project aims to fund, design and deliver a brand new children's playground and public greenspace that all the residents and visitors to Tintwistle can enjoy and be proud of.
The park is the only dedicated children's space in the Village and has fallen into a poor state of repair with a chronic lack of funding and investment. A grant of £12000 would represent a fifth of the total we need to rebuild the forgotten community resource - a huge step towards the end goal.
Tintwistle is blighted by the Woodhead pass and the associated traffic congestion so a bright and inviting new park is desperately needed. Please consider voting for this project when you shop in your local Tesco.

Grants of between £2,000 and £50,000 are available for projects that can demonstrate how they fall into Object D of the Landfill Communities Fund. Object D shows commitment to the protection of the environment, and the provision, maintenance or improvement of a public park or another public amenity. - Replacement doors and windows for village halls and community centres.
- Provision of children’s play equipment in open public spaces.
- Construction of footpaths and cycleways in public parks.
- The provision of all-weather play surfaces for MUGA multi use games areas.

To be eligible a project also needs to be situated within the vicinity of a landfill site – see details and eligibility checker on website below.
Although match funding is not a specified requirement, the Waste Recycling Group (as a condition of providing WREN with the Landfill Tax Credits) require project applicants to secure the help of eligible 'Third Parties' who will reimburse them with an amount equal to 10.75% of any grant committed. - Churches or Parochial Church Councils.
- Parish or Town Councils or Management Committees or User Associations acting on behalf of Parish or Town Councils.
