Tameside Council and Tameside & Glossop CCG (Tameside & Glossop Strategic Commission) has launched a Budget Conversation inviting local people to give their views on budget priorities for 2019/20 and beyond.
Details...
Together, the Strategic Commission is responsible for a huge range of services, from schools to GP surgeries, street lights to looking after those in need. Overall the total amount of money we spend annually is £900 million.
In recent years, this figure has decreased significantly due to cuts from central government and with each budget, we are tasked with coming up with innovative ways to deliver our services and make savings.
The Budget Conversation aims to explain where the money we spend comes from and how we spend it. We are inviting people’s thoughts on two key issues:
- What should be the spending priorities for 2019/20 and future years and;
- Ideas or suggestions as to how we might deliver services more efficiently, save money or raise revenue.
You can participate in the Budget Conversation by visiting the dedicated web page and completing the online survey - www.tameside.gov.uk/tbc/budgetconversation2019-20
Alternatively comments can be e-mailed to bigconversation@tameside.gov.uk.
The conversation will run until Tuesday 29 January 2019.

Sterndale Moor Task Force Remembrance Beacon event.
Details...
Sterndale Moor remembered those who fell in WW1 on Sunday 11th November with a day full of respects.
We paid respects at our war memorial at Brandside at 2pm, a 2 minute silence was upheld.
At 3.30 we were back at Sterndale Moor where we had a game of football, reminiscent of the Christmas ceasefire in 1914-the event was well attended and afterwards we retired to the village function room for tea and cake. The function room was decorated with Union Jack flags and bunting and local people bought along their wartime memorabilia to show during the whole event.
On the evening we lit our beacon at 7pm whilst listening to wartime music over loud speakers.
At 7.54pm we started our firework display to wartime music which lit up the silent soldiers that were hand made. See www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv_c8yMnuOA
After 5 minutes of amazing fireworks the poem "Ode to Remembrance” was played over the loud speakers, which was recited by people of the village and played over a filmed visual of a silent unknown soldier-this was followed by a live bugler playing the last post. A two minute silence was then observed.
Back in the village function room, we held a raffle with lots of prizes gifted from generous local companies.
The evening was a huge success and we plan to make this our annual event as lots of people have asked to see it all again.
