New members are always welcome, whether they are newly diagnosed with diabetes, or a family member, or maybe a carer.
Type 1 diabetes affects mostly children and younger people. There are no facilities in the High Peak, and the group helps to fill the gaps. Their "Pen People" go to clinics in Macclesfield, Stockport, Derby, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Stoke and Manchester.
One of their greatest problems is the feeling of isolation. They aim to help. Conatct Sue Barber on sooby@rocketmail.com.

The MVS is expanding into Derbyshire.
Details...
Maritime - hints of salty water, which shows their roots as they evolved from the Royal Navy Auxiliary Service. Today however the water can be very fresh and sometime not even permanent. They have a number of inland Units
Volunteer - From the very top to the newest recruit - each one is a volunteer.
Service - the strap line says it all "We Change Lives by Training People in Maritime Skills and We Support Communities in and around All UK Waters and Waterways."
As MVS open more Units within the inland waterways they are asking community volunteers groups if there is a use for the MVS locally? Could they assist the community in time of flooding as an example?
