Derbyshire County Council has launched a consultation into their plans to include Social Value when procuring local services, including those from the voluntary and community sector.
Details...
The Social Value Act 2012 came into force on 31 January 2013. The act places a requirement on commissioners (and procurement officers) to consider the economic, environmental and social benefits of their approaches to the procurement of public services.
A group comprising representatives from departments has been established to support the development of Social Value across the council. The group has produced a draft Social Value Strategy, which sets out the aims, priorities and key actions required to develop Social Value.
The consultation process is important in ensuring that the voluntary and community sector and suppliers are able to input their views.
The consultation is aimed at:
- Contracted service providers (and those hoping to win contracts)
- Service users
- Voluntary and community organisations
You can take part by filling in an online questionnaire - the consultation is open until 20 November 2016.

In 2009, High Peak CVS introduced a new annual award in honor of its second Chairperson, Chris Woodcock, the Celebrating People Award.
Details...
Chris made a significant contribution to local groups within the High Peak including High Peak CVS. Chris had the unique ability to get to the nub of an issue, cut through to what is important and succinctly lay out the way forward. He was always dedicated, responsive, supportive and jovial. When he passed away, the High Peak voluntary sector lost one of its strongest advocates and supporters.
Through this award, High Peak CVS wants to celebrate and commemorate not only Chris’s contribution, but also his insight into the potential of voluntary activity for personal and community growth.
The award will offer local groups the opportunity to raise their profile and gain recognition for the work they do. Our key assessment criteria will be around acknowledging your achievements and progress. Examples of the types of changes we are looking for maybe around revitalising your group, attracting new members, attracting new funding, developing a new project and or making a significant impact in your local community.
You can apply on behalf of your group, you can be nominated by or nominate another group. A small panel will make the decision.
High Peak CVS will present the Award, a commemorative plaque, framed certificate and cheque for £100 for the group, at its Annual General Meeting in November. The Award is open to all groups, however small or large, newly formed or long established and we encourage everyone to apply.
There is a simple application form which groups are asked to complete and return to: Jackie Donnelly, High Peak CVS, Dunbar House, 105 Buxton Road, Whaley Bridge, High Peak SK23 7HX. or Email: jackie@highpeakcvs.org.uk or Tel: 01663 736436
The closing date for applications is Monday 24 October 2016.

Buxton Markets CIC took over running the markets in Buxton at the end of April and have now established a market of regular traders on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Details...
They are starting to introduce the special add-ons to the Saturday markets - Craft, Quirky and Vintage on the first Saturday each month, Food & Drink on the third. They will also be having a special Christmas Market on Saturday 3 December, and will stay open till 8pm, which will coincide with a Christmas Carnival Parade through the town and other seasonal festivities.
Thanks to support from the Bingham Trust charities, community groups and other not-for-profit organisations can take a stall for free. They do restrict this offer to two markets per year for each organisation. Obviously you can have stalls more frequently if you pay the standard market rate for them.
Normally they also have a restriction of only one free charity stall on each market, but in the run up to Christmas, on the 'Special add-on' market days, they are relaxing this. So if you'd like a stall to promote your organisation between now and the end of the year get in touch - admin@buxtonmarkets.co.uk
