Buxton Markets CIC took over running the markets in Buxton at the end of April and have now established a market of regular traders on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Details...
They are starting to introduce the special add-ons to the Saturday markets - Craft, Quirky and Vintage on the first Saturday each month, Food & Drink on the third. They will also be having a special Christmas Market on Saturday 3 December, and will stay open till 8pm, which will coincide with a Christmas Carnival Parade through the town and other seasonal festivities.
Thanks to support from the Bingham Trust charities, community groups and other not-for-profit organisations can take a stall for free. They do restrict this offer to two markets per year for each organisation. Obviously you can have stalls more frequently if you pay the standard market rate for them.
Normally they also have a restriction of only one free charity stall on each market, but in the run up to Christmas, on the 'Special add-on' market days, they are relaxing this. So if you'd like a stall to promote your organisation between now and the end of the year get in touch - admin@buxtonmarkets.co.uk

Grants of up to £5000 available to improve local open spaces.
Details...
All the money raised is from the 5p carrier bag levy and Tesco stores are being used to fund thousands of community projects across the UK. The projects must meet the criteria of promoting community participation in the development of outdoor spaces.
The project has altered slightly since the last round and as of September 2016 three projects in each region will be shortlisted to go forward to a public vote in each of the Tesco regions every month.
The projects will be awarded a grant based upon the number of votes received: first place receives up to £5,000, second place up to £2,000 and third place up to £1,000.
All projects must deliver a physical environmental improvement and/or encourage use and long term sustainability of outdoor spaces.
Grants will be awarded to voluntary or community organisations (including registered charities/ companies), schools, health bodies, Parish/Town Councils, local authorities and social housing providers - this list in not exhaustive and many other types of organisations may be funded.

Taking steps towards feeling positive through learning new skills.
Details...
Supporting mental health through learning something new. Develop confidence in a friendly environment.
These FREE courses are available for anyone experiencing mental health difficulties, or emotional or psychological distress. One in four of us go through this at some time in our lives. People can join Bright Side as an individual or through a support group.
The Bright Side courses are normally 12 hours long, spread over several weeks. They deliver a rich variety of practical and hands-on skills, such as outdoor and creative activities, cookery and relaxation, all in a friendly setting.
Each programme will be adapted to the interests of each group and can offer a stepping stone onto other activities.
People with understanding and experience of mental health issues are helping to design the Bright Side project because they know how learning new skills can help. Additional support will be provided to help people to join in, enjoy themselves and move on.
