Free training and information session for frontline workers, befrienders and volunteers - Wednesday 10 February 2016, 10am - 12noon Whaley Bridge (with lunch)
Details...
High Peak CVS would like to invite you to FREE information & training session for volunteers and workers in our community who support local people. The information session will give you knowledge of ways in which local people may be able to save money or apply for additional support with their heating and electric bills, helping them stay warm this winter!
The friendly and informal session (for which you need no prior knowledge) is designed to give information and awareness of:
• How people can switch energy supplier (much easier than most people think!)
• Different benefits and allowances people can apply for if they are in poverty, have a disability or health problem or are on pensions/benefits.
• Priority Services which disabled people can apply for with the energy companies
After attending the session you will be able to pass on this straightforward knowledge to individuals. It can make a huge difference to vulnerable people (eg the elderly, disabled, those with young children) or those who are struggling to make ends meet or live in a stone built house, which tend to be more expensive to heat.
You are not expected to advise people on their finances or do anything more complicated than make others aware of the information and help them switch. One big advantage of attending is that you will also be able to use this knowledge to help your friends and family to save money. In fact, we encourage attendees to bring your own gas and electricity bill/statement and we can see if you can save money at the session - if you haven't changed suppliers in the last couple of years, it is highly likely you are paying up to several hundred pounds too much!
Come along on Wednesday 10 February 10.00 am - 12noon (lunch provided) to our offices at High Peak CVS, Dunbar House, 105 Buxton Road, Whaley Bridge, High Peak SK23 7HX
If you would like to join us, please email Rachel Harman at rachel@highpeakcvs.org.uk or call or text 07905 289 578. Please also state if you would like to stay on for lunch for our planning - thank you.
The session is run by High Peak Community and Voluntary Support with funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
