Event: Emergency First Aid at Work - CANCELLED

Date: Thu 22 Jun 2017   Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm

A popular one-day, certificated introduction to Emergency First Aid at Work, useful for all, but especially those acting as volunteers or workers within a voluntary and community group. Book early as places go very quickly.

The course will cover, in the accordance with HSE guidelines, all aspects of what should be done in an emergency, which are:

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Dealing with an unconscious casualty
  • Control of wounds & bleeding
  • Incident management
  • Accident reporting
  • CPR and airway disorders
  • Causes of unconsciousness and recovery position
  • Wounds, bleeding, bandaging and shock
  • Other illnesses and conditions

The course also includes a demonstration of how to use a defibrillator

Note - Delegates must be able to perform the recovery position and CPR on the floor. This involves kneeling. 


Cost: Voluntary and community groups without paid workers £30. Voluntary and community groups with paid workers £40. All pay £10 for certificate and book.

News: Mental Health Awareness Training Courses

This full day course is designed to give participants an understanding of mental well-being and mental illness and the issues that arise for people suffering from mental distress and illness; to challenge myths and reduce stigma and to offer ways to assist others experiencing mental distress.

It is a basic level introductory course aimed at people who have no previous mental health training or who are non-mental health workers whose work or volunteering brings them into contact with people with mental health problems.

Suitable for a wide variety of job roles for example receptionists, physical health workers, librarians, support workers.

News: Voluntary Arts Festival 2017 to Launch with Thunderclap!

This year's Voluntary Arts Festival takes place across the UK from 5-14 May with hundreds of events hosted by local creative groups welcoming new members and participants or just those who are feeling a little curious about a particular art-form.

Many groups and venues are putting on special showcase events and workshops and inviting members of their local community to join them while other groups have listed their regular meet-up as part of the Festival to encourage new members to come along and find out what's happening. See the website to list your own event, access tools to help promote your event or find an event happening near you.

On Friday 5 May, Voluntary Arts Festival supporters and creative groups across the country will help to launch the Festival with a Thunderclap on social media accounts.

News: IT Grants

IT Grants for UK not-for-profit groups and charities.

Assistance for groups with IT grants, UK-wide for the provision of PC's, laptops, smartboards, projectors and networks.

Most mainstream capital IT is eligible.

Net Solutions Wales have been assisting the Third Sector for over 20 years and work on the basis of supplying the awarded Kit (at no cost to your organisation or ongoing commitment).

Any UK NFP group or charity with UK beneficiaries is eligible.

News: Village Hall Insurance Cover

Training for the managers of village, community and sports facilities.

Ashford War Memorial Institute on Tuesday 9 May 10.00 am – 1.00 pm.  

Barrow on Trent Village Hall on Tuesday 16 May 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm.

Managing trustees of village halls have a duty under Charity Law to insure the Charity’s assets and liabilities and may be personally liable if they fail to do so.

Both sessions will include:

  • What is Underinsurance?
  • How secure is your hall?
  • Confused about Trustee Liability Insurance?
  • How to minimise risk
  • Questions and answers session

There will also be the opportunity to provide individual hall premium indications and/or quotations if requested at the end of each event.

Delegates will also get FREE copies of the ACRE Information Sheets on insurance cover (usual cost £10 each).

News: Small Charity Week 2017

Small Charity Week, 19-24 June, is the biggest event in the small charity calendar providing free initiatives, competitions and support over six days for charities or local community organisation with an annual turnover under £1.5 million.

Events include:

I Love Small Charities Day: Three social media competitions to win funds for your charity.

Big Advice Day: Free advice on any charity topic of your choosing from experts across the sector and business leaders.

Policy Day: Local and national events will be held to support engagement between small charities and policy makers and influencers.

Fundraising Day: Take part in free competitions and initiatives to raise vital funds for your small charity and join events to improve your knowledge on fundraising topics.

Small Charity Big Impact Day: Showcase your small charity and the fantastic impact it makes by applying for the FSI’s Small Charity Big Impact Awards.

Celebration Day: Get involved and run an event to help raise awareness of and celebrate your amazing work.

News: Blythe House Womens Health and Wellbeing Day

Helping you stay healthy - Saturday 6 May 10am – 2pm.

Among the stalls will be information on Breast Awareness, including "The Lemon Campaign”, exercise for health, and complementary therapies. There will also be representatives from Blythe House services including the Children and Young People’s service, the newly developed Lymphoedema Service, the Macmillan Information and Support Centre and there will be also be opportunities to speak to a secondary breast cancer nurse specialist.
