News: Cybercrime Threats to Voluntary and Community Sector

FREE conference to raise awareness of cybercrime threats to the Voluntary and Community Sector and provide advice on how to prevent them.

#Derbyshire Online Supporting the Voluntary Sector in the Digital Age - Friday 2 November 2018 9.30am – 4.00pm  at The Post Mill Centre, South Normanton

An informative conference designed to bring together charities and voluntary organisations to highlight the everyday cyber risks that your organisation faces and provide advice to protect your organisation’s funds, personal data and other information that is attractive to cyber criminals.   Throughout the day, experts from industry and the police demonstrate the simple steps you can take to protect your charity and yourselves online.

  • Appreciate how technology can promote and support the work of your charity
  • Understand the threat of cybercrime to the voluntary sector
  • Know how to improve your cyber security in order to protect your charity’s data, assets and reputation
  • Learn basic online safety practices that will help protect yourself, your staff, your volunteers, your trustees and your service users

This event is aimed at Trustees, Managers and Team Leaders within charities and voluntary organisations in Derbyshire.  A maximum of two places are available per organisation.

Grants of up to £5000 are still available, but not for too much longer as the fund, as is stands, is due to fully spend in the next few months…

News: Blythe House Hospice Jingle Bell Jog

Run, walk, dance, prance, jog or jingle your way around Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens to raise funds for Blythe House Hospicecare! 

The High Peak hospice is holding the 5km Jingle Bell Jog on Sunday 2 December 2018 in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens. Registration is now open, and the early bird fee of £10 is available until 31 October. Registration includes your Santa suit so you can truly get into the festive spirit! 

For children under 12 the event includes a 700 meter Reindeer Run. Registration for the Reindeer Run is £2 until 31 October. Included is a pair of reindeer antlers to be worn on the day. 

Becca Gregory from Blythe House Hospicecare said ‘We are so excited to be bringing the Jingle Bell Jog to Buxton!’

1 in 3 people are touched by hospice care and the services at Blythe House remain completely free of charge to those that need them. By taking part in the event you will be helping your local hospice provide support for those in the High Peak community affected by cancer, life-limiting illness or bereavement. 

‘We look forward to seeing hundreds of Santa’s on 2nd December, joining in the fun whilst raising vital funds for the Hospice’.

News: Changing Faces

Funny Wonders "Changing Faces" project continues this term.

The project, supported by Children in Need, involves weekly, after-school, creative workshops for young people aged 11-18yrs who face difficulties.

They are looking for participants, referred by care teams, teachers, parents or the young people themselves, and volunteers to help support the participants.

The workshops run on Tuesdays at the Green Man Gallery in Buxton until 5pm. If anyone would like to get involved, please contact hello@funnywonders.org.uk.
