News: Death Cafe

Lively conversation about a subject we shouldn’t be quiet about - Tuesday 27 November 7-9pm at The Tradesman’s Entrance Café, 13 Scarsdale Place, Buxton

At a Death Cafe people, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. 

A Death Cafe is a small group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes.  It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

News: Christmas Pudding Appeal - Extended to 30 Nov

2018 Christmas Pudding Appeal for Prostate Cancer Charities - deadline date’s now extended to 30 November.

Help by buying a 908g (2 lb), serves eight, Christmas Pudding, price still £10; it is fully cooked and just needs reheating. Post/deliver your order, along with a cheque payable to ‘Rotary Club of Buxton’, to be with Rotarian Andy Collier, 93 Green Lane, Buxton, SK17 9DJ, by 30 Nov latest (date we place our bulk order). Include your telephone number and email and postal addresses, which will be held securely.

Instructions on how to order and pay by BACS and a downloadable order form if you have a printer, are on the website link below. Orders from Buxton addresses will be delivered by early December; customers outside Buxton will be asked to collect their puddings by arrangement.

Puddings may contain mustard and fragments of nutshell, kernel or small stones. Main allergens are egg, wheat (gluten), nuts, sulphites, sulphur dioxide, but do check via our website or at rotaryxmaspuddings.co.uk, where a unit case of 12 puddings can be bought online for £120 including free delivery. Rotary Club of Buxton have been supporting Cwmbran Vale Rotary's Christmas Pudding Appeal since 2007, selling 1,776 puddings to date.

News: Christmas Crafts Course

Christmas Crafts Bright Side course at the Amber Trust in Buxton, six sessions on Thursdays from 22 Nov.

The Christmas Crafts group will make cards, festive decorations for home and small gift boxes to help learners save money.

Bright Side courses are free and open to local people with mild to moderate mental health issues, who are experiencing low mood, emotional difficulties, anxiety or who are socially isolated.

News: Diabetes Training

Training Day for First Responders and Care Staff Monday 24 June 2019 10am to 4pm. at: Community Room, Buxton Fire and Rescue on Staden Lane, Buxton SK17 9RZ.

All delegates will receive an information pack, lunch and refreshments.

News: Furness COGS AGM

Furness COGS (Community Organising Green Space) are holding their AGM on Thursday 22 November 8pm at Furness Vale Community Centre, Yeardsley Lane.

Refreshments will be available from 7.30pm.   There will be an update on all he recent improvements carried out at the community field and the future plans, together with the opportunity to ask questions and get involved.   Everyone is very welcome.

Salary: £18,587pa - 37 hours per week

Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts give free, confidential, impartial and independent advice and information on a wide range of subjects.

Base: Matlock, Derbyshire

They have an opportunity for an experienced Administrator to join their existing team who provide a first class booking service for the Pension Wise project. The role will also include providing an excellent support to the Office Manager and Senior Management team.

This role is within the charity’s central team and as such there is the opportunity to experience many facets of the organisation and to play an important role in the smooth running of operations both internally and externally.

Applicants need to be computer-literate, although training on our systems will be given. Good communications skills, both written and verbal are essential in the role, as is excellent customer service skills with a non-judgemental approach.
