News: The Disability Employment Service

The Disability Employment Service, funded by Derbyshire County Council, supports disabled people to find training, work experience, voluntary work and paid employment.

What the service offers:

  •  Help to match you to the job that’s right for you

  •  Help to find work experience and voluntary work

  •  Make sure you find out about job vacancies

  •  Help to sell yourself with application forms and CV

  •  Help you to prepare for interviews

  •  Advise you about support in the workplace, such as equipment or other support you may need.

The service works with anyone living in Derbyshire who has a disability.

News: Mindful Compassion Course

Mindful Compassion Course at Blythe House March - May 2017.

An eight-week course taking place on Tuesday evenings, 6 - 8pm, on the following dates: 28 March, 4, 11, 18 April, 2, 9, 16, 30 May

This course can help you to

  • take better care of yourself and others by developing your selfawareness
  • improve your ability to manage difficult situations in life, thus reducing your stress levels
  • notice and appreciate the good things in life more
  • have a better understanding of your mind, body, thoughts, feelings and emotions and how this may impact on those around you and the world you live in.

Formal and informal meditation practices will be developed from week to week to enable you to develop a greater insight and experience of mindful compassion in your everyday life.

Places are limited to 15 and the group format allows for sharing of practice, discussion and exploration of experiences to complement learning. Suggestions for home practice opportunities will be offered at each session and complemented by a programme pack and meditation CDs given at key points throughout the programme.

Facilitator: David Oldham, highly-experienced Mindful Compassion Teacher, Practitioner and Counsellor

Course cost £160, payable on booking with all profits to Blythe House Hospice.

Job: Activity Leader

Would you like to work at Oakwood Day Service in Sutton near Macclesfield and be part of the team offering stimulating and interesting activities for learning and physically disabled adult tenants and outside users?  They have a permanent Activity Leader vacancy which is 32 hours per week, Mondays to Thursdays 8.30am – 4.30pm (hourly rate £8.01 plus pension, health insurance and benefits). 

The role is working in the Horticulture section of the Day Centre.  Experience and knowledge of Horticulture is desirable, but an interest in gardening and a willingness to learn is sufficient and they will support your training needs.

Blythe House Hospice provides day and community services in the High Peak. They need to raise £926,000 each year to provide support and services to local people affected by cancer, other life-limiting illnesses and bereavement.
