The High Peak Community Climate Change Fund has been established as part of the Council’s efforts to tackle climate change. The fund is intended to provide small grants to community-based organisations taking measures locally to tackle the climate emergency.
The aim is to mobilise the resources of local communities, encourage people to work together in a voluntary capacity and empower individuals and communities to take actions which: reduce local CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions; increase the ability of nature to absorb and store greenhouse gas emission; and build resilience in nature to mitigate the impact of climate change.
Grants are available to help support the delivery of High Peak Borough Council’s
Climate Change Strategy . It will support practical measures such as tree planting and habitat improvement, educative actions to increase awareness and the skills needed to change and adapt lifestyles, green travel/transport schemes, energy saving in community buildings, local food projects and recycling and reuse projects.
The structure of the grants has changed this year with the maximum available increasing to £5000, though with some important guidance
- Have you got a new idea that you want to test out? Apply for between £400-£1000
- You have a project that you want to take to the next phase – apply for between £1000-£2000
- Looking to make your project more sustainable and maximise the impact – apply for £2000-£5000*
Who can apply?
The fund is for any community group which needs some help to set up a project to support nature or tackle climate change. The group’s main purpose does not need to be related to the environment, just the specific project this would deliver.
The project is administered by High Peak Community and Voluntary Support (HPCVS). If you have any questions regarding the grant scheme or require any guidance in
completing the application form, please phone High Peak CVS on 01663 735350 Option 5 or email hello@highpeakcvs.org.uk
