Working alongside Deb Boden, Clare will be part of the Groups Development Team at High Peak CVS. She will be supporting groups to start up, to develop, to re-open after Covid and to resolve difficulties and overcome hurdles across the High Peak area.

‘Following 13 years working at Home-Start, I was keen to remain in the voluntary sector. The community element of the development role is exciting and I enjoy working alongside people and supporting them to achieve.

My previous experience working directly with families has shown me how important local community groups are. They contribute to people’s well-being, both mentally and physically and give a safe place for people to share and meet like-minded people. To be able to support the development of these groups and to support the committees and members will be a privilege.

Prior to Home-Start I worked in analytical, project development and teaching and training roles, most recently with nurseries and their staff. People have always been at the heart of my work and I am pleased that this role allows that to continue.

I attended local groups with my children when they were young and thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and community feel they offered. My children are both at High School now, but we have remained in touch with friends from the early groups and are still members at a few of the local community sports clubs. They keep me busy attending training and matches each week and I have accumulated an extensive collection of bobble hats to keep me warm on the side lines in the winter.

I have also volunteered in the community in a variety of ways. I supported reading development at the local primary school, helped to organise the annual festival at the rugby club and have done timekeeping at swimming galas. I appreciate that the time and skills volunteers offer is invaluable and hopefully one day I will have time and space to do more.

This feels like a significant time for groups. As restrictions have been lifted centrally, there are still considerations to be taken locally due to Covid. Attendance at groups is essential for their success but to do this so all feel comfortable and safe is a continued consideration. I am hoping we can work together with groups to offer suggestions and organise solutions to fit their needs.

The team here at High Peaks CVS have been so welcoming from day one. Everyone is passionate about their role and the part they play and I cannot wait to be able to contribute to that further and share their success.’
