High Peak Baby Bank reaches 2 year milestone
24th January marked two years since Kirsty Jackson set up the Facebook page for what was then her brainchild, Buxton Baby Bank! This is the day the group use as the official start of the organisation, although it had been an idea of Kirsty’s developing and growing since September 2020.
And what a 2 years the group has had!
“We have rehomed thousands and thousands of items (and even seen a few items come back again and again a few times), formed lasting friendships and grown massively within the community. Something that started out as a simple clothes swapping project for a chunky baby has become an amazing service encompassing so many types of families and services for those who need it.” Kirsty explained.
Not long after the process of formally setting up as a constituted group with its own bank account, which was aided along the way with a little guidance from High Peak CVS’s Group Development team, the operation of the baby bank was expanding more quickly than anticipated, with demand for the service high and word of the group spreading. This prompted Kirsty and her team to change the name to encompass the whole of the High Peak and not just Buxton, where the group is based. And so High Peak Baby Bank was officially adopted by the committee.
Larger funding bids, including one from the National Lottery, were applied for by Treasurer Carla Weir and were successful, helping establish some stability for the group’s short term future.
The group was by now well and truly in its stride.
“We’ve been able to start Weigh ins, several Baby and Toddler Groups, get grants and funding, and so much more!
“We have won and been nominated for awards, held a Ukraine Donation Appeal, and had some great events too.”
But far from Kirsty and the team to sit on their laurels, High Peak Baby Bank is now looking ahead to the next stage and is in the process of becoming a fully-fledged charity.
“We are currently working on our application for charity status and hope to send everything off to the Charity Commission very soon. It is just wonderful to see that we have reached this point in only 2 years.
“We are so truly grateful to everyone who has been there for us over the last two years and helped us grow.” Kirsty beamed.
The group held a special birthday celebration on Saturday 4th February, at Buxton Community Church where they are based, complete with cake to celebrate their well-deserved milestone and reflect on how far they had come in such a short space of time.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for helping us to help the community.”
A huge congratulations to Kirsty and the team at High Peak Baby Bank.
